I think this could be a good idea, however there are some challenges to this. For example, the individual economies within the EU could lean more heavily towards coal or nuclear energy, which could cause some resistance.

While I would support an EU led energy union, I feel that not every country would be on board with it nor are on an equal playing field. I don't think that much would be achieved and that an energy union would just become another 'check box' for the EU to be like look what we did but not show any realistic progress or results.

A centralized electric system or at the very least a dispersed one which picked up slack when needed especially if Nuclear would be ideal. The Irish government and citizenry doesn't have the knowledge or experience needed to operate a facility like this but however many needed spread across Europe would be ideal and argueably cheaper for the common man if a common fund was required for this.
