Should businesses be required to have women on their board of directors?

In December 2014, the German government announced a new rule which would require German companies to fill 30% of their board seats with women. In Ireland 8% of corporate boards seat women directors which is less than the UK (22.8%), US (19.2%), Canada (20.8%) and Australia (23.6%). In Norway 35.5% of boards contain women directors which is the highest percentage in the world.

No, because diversity is not better than being skilled or having quality

No, but businesses should be required to submit all candidates for any role and their candidate choice and the reason for their choice, to a third party government regulation service for supervision and approval, to avoid discrimination hiding behind a fake meritocracy

If the government wants to impose equality and diversity then 50% of candidates must be women and 50% of cabinet women as well .

Boards of directors or indeed any job should have the best person for the job regardless of gender. If that means they don't balance the gender quota so what? Diversity hires can potentially lower standards.

Is this really even a question? If they are qualified, yes obviously. Why do u care what’s between there legs or on there chest.

I don’t think it should be mandated but when it isn’t mandated it’s less likely to happen. I’d love for it to be improved long term while also looking at companies that don’t have women on their board and see why etc

There should be more diversity but the requirement of diversity poses the risk of it being performative rather than sincere integration and thus limits the actual diversity
