Should the U.S. accept refugees from Syria?

I am open to Ireland helping and accepting refugees, however I feel the government should look after Irish citizens first

For example the housing crisis, homelessness, lack of funding and staffing in healthcare sector etc... it baffles me how the government can take on social issues outside of Ireland without addressing our own first.
