A highly functional public transportation system will reduce reliance on petroleum usage as well as reduce emissions.

The current state of public transportation is a joke. It is overcrowded and there it clearly needs for funding. Perhaps there should be less funding in politicians travelling abroad.
Try getting around anywhere in the USA without a car, versus getting around anywhere in Western Europe without a car.
@9MBKCNK1wk1W
Increased use of public transportation directly decreases the number of cars on the road, reducing carbon emissions and traffic congestion.

I can use my leap card on the 133 bus to Dublin from Wicklow Town, but not on the train. Kilcoole has a leap card machine at their train station.

We have a limited time to reverse the damage of climate devastation, and the major issue with ireland is its reliance on private transport. People need to start thinking of the collective good of the country rather than selfish individualism
@9LQH8654wks4W
Because the quality is not up standard and should be invested in to raise to the level of other European countries
@9KB4GN63mos3MO
The county needs far more public transportation options such as railways in more places and a rail link from Dublin City to Dublin Airport. Ireland is plagued with cars and busses and Dublin is one of the few major cities is Europe without any rail link to the airport, and Dublin Airport is one of the busiest airports in Europe.
Citizens are being forced to use their cars which increases pollution and the public transport system is already very unreliable as is
@9JVZFTB3mos3MO
Ridiculous. If it is the aspiration of the Irish government and EU to reduce our environmental impact, it is imperative that we continue and further fund public transportation. Furthermore, people from less affluent economic backgrounds should be afforded the same transportational facilities as the more affluent.
@9H9LCJJ6mos6MO
Public transport in rural ireland is next to non existent, in Dublin it fine but i would like to see an underground system within the next 10-15 years but in rural ireland its hard to get from the countryside to the nearest town or even town to town i would increase bus services in rural areas
@9GZS2K4Independent6mos6MO
Public transport is in a dire state right now and increasing spending in public transport infrastructure and programmes would allow for quicker trips without a car and create a more sustainable mode of travel
Public transport is vital to combatting climate emissions, as well as making a safer world for pedestrians and more accessible transport for those that cant afford a car
@9LZ4YWMIndependent2wks2W
Ireland can never reach its clinete goals withoht appropriate investment to public transport. Furthermore a good 21st century public transportation could help solve the oveecrowding issue in Dublin, and other major cities.
@9LVS32JIndependent3wks3W
We should not reduce spending on public transport, our public transport system is terrible, and significant work needs to be done on this
@9MF5CDM 4 days4D
The only reason cars are so appealing as an option is because public transport is terrible. Personal transport is unsustainable at scale within cities.
We don't live in a fantasy land, we live in the real world where we have to make pragmatic decisions-- the economic system is already screwed as it is, no kids are buying cars... If we want a stable youth workforce, maybe making sure they can actually get to their job in the first place might be a good start.
A highly functional public transportation system will reduce reliance on petroleum usage as well as reduce emissions.
