Critics argue that by refusing to participate in elections or legislative bodies, abstentionists may inadvertently strengthen the very systems or institutions they oppose. Despite these criticisms, abstentionism remains a significant political ideology and strategy, reflecting ongoing debates about the nature and limits of political participation.
