Should the government invest in programs to reduce food waste?

Food waste is a significant contributor to climate change generating around 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions. In Ireland, over one million tonnes of food is wasted annually. This represents a carbon footprint of as high as 3.6 Mt CO2eq (carbon equivalent). On a worldwide scale, 1.3 billion tonnes of food is wasted each year.

Most people don't realize how often they waste food and the negative impacts it can have for food security, the environment, and climate change. Reducing food loss and waste could benefit them, their families, and the world, now and in the future.
