Scientists have rediscovered the Barbados threadsnake, the world's smallest-known snake, after it was missing from scientific observation for nearly two decades.
The tiny reptile, which can fit comfortably on a coin and measures about four inches long, was last seen in 2006 and feared extinct. Its rediscovery in Barbados in March 2025 has sparked relief and excitement among conservationists and biologists. The snake was found under rocks in the Scotland District of St. Andrew, Barbados, after an extensive search.
This finding highlights the importance of continued field research and conservation efforts for species thought to be lost.
