Congestion pricing is a system where drivers are charged a fee to enter certain high-traffic areas during peak times, aiming to reduce traffic congestion and pollution. Proponents argue that it effectively reduces traffic and emissions while generating revenue for public transportation improvements. Opponents argue that it unfairly targets lower-income drivers and may simply shift congestion to other areas.

My uncle had a serious heat condition and had an appointment in Dublin. Public transport was not available as he was travelling for the other side of the country so I drove him. Have another dozen examples of this. Public transport is non existent in rural Ireland. So we have no choices in getting to bigger urban area. Simple. Anyone that says otherwise is a clown.
@9Z9Q9ZP8mos8MO
Cost of living is already too high if we pay congestion charges come in it can cause people not to be able to afford to get to work causing more issues
@9N3WF5B1yr1Y
driving has an enormous cost for society. To not have Congestion Pricing is to subsidise car drivers
@ISIDEWITH1yr1Y
Yes
@9ZCH96DSocial Democrats 8mos8MO
It should be up to the government to make public transport more accessible rather than penalising people for having to use their cars as a result of the failures in a intergrated transport system

@9Z9G4DL8mos8MO
would you want to charge a single mother/father coming home from their job after a hard days work trying to put food on the table and trying to make rent, an additional fee that’s unnecessary because you don’t like how long it takes to get home?cop on
@B2NL5D45mos5MO
No, for now as the transit systems in urban areas in Irealnd are not adequate enough to justify congestion pricing. However, once the transit systems in these places are adequate and up to standard, congestion pricing should definitely be implemented.
@9ZTYF33 7mos7MO
no until public transport is increased and improved then yes to discourage the use of personal vehicles
@9ZT3FBC7mos7MO
Unreliable public transport is the leading cause for dependence on cars and private vehicles. The people should not be penalized for the governments lack of development of public transport.
@9ZSZWLZ7mos7MO
I think the government make enough money from people with all the costs of having a car in the road and parking
@9ZR2QRL7mos7MO
Only if there is an adequate public transport system to meet the demand for people who will not use vehicles in urban areas as a result of the charges
No, better management of elements of our road network such as light sequencing should be prioritised to minimise traffic congestion and instead emissions based charging/restriction's should be introduced as seen in most countries in mainland Europe (Germany, Spain, France)
@9ZBDVLB8mos8MO
Yes they should but not if there is not sufficient public transport infrastructure in the city
@9Z9WFY78mos8MO
No, in cities like Paris it does not decongest traffic and only adds to driver’s frustrations and stress when parking, which could result in accidents.
@9Z9KWS88mos8MO
No, cities should try to reduce the number of cars.
@9Z9NVGY8mos8MO
Yes but public transport efficiency has to improve
@9YNDBVV8mos8MO
yes but only if that money were put directly into funding public transportation measures
@9YJZG968mos8MO
No. Improving public transportation would be a better solution
No. The cost of living is bad enough. Stop pushing extra costs onto the people.
@9MQZL7W1yr1Y
Only when they have suitable alternatives available
@9MQSRDM 1yr1Y
Yes but public transport would need to be in place to allow easy access to cities
@9MNMLP91yr1Y
They should make it more accessible in other ways so people aren’t solely dependent on their cars.
@9MNL5Y61yr1Y
Not until there is a very efficient and working public transport system that makes it viable to do so
@9MMRML2 1yr1Y
More public transportation should be prioritised over added taxes
@9MMNZJ61yr1Y
Yes, and it should be controlled by the local councils with all payments remaining in said councils to help fund public transport
@9MMD24G1yr1Y
Yes but to encourage use of public transport, bikes and scoters
@9MLTGQW1yr1Y
Yes but only if they sort out public transport e.g park and ride facilities
@9MLSNR6Independent1yr1Y
Yes if there are viable alternatives in place (ie reliable public transport and cycling infrastructure). This is not the case for any city in Ireland.
Cities should implement better and cheaper public transport systems all around the country, and cities should promote walkability
@9NSF44L1yr1Y
Yes if public transport was functional and readily available
@9NMXF5K1yr1Y
Yes but only if free public transport is available
@9N6WBSJ1yr1Y
yes but not for residents or workers in those areas
The government should target owners of dangerously and stupidly large SUVs for congestion pricing
