The government has a right to protect its citizens and part of this is ensuring the protection of their right to privacy which in the modern age is more valuable then ever. Companies should not have the right to exploit citizens for their own personal profit.

Absolutely. I think people should be given more education to the importance of this also. I find most people are very dismissive of just how much many companies that they've never even heard of have a large amount of information about them. This is not okay and I believe it should be prevented at all costs. In most cases even the times you really do need to give a few personal details, they always ask more than they really need to know, likely to sell the personal data

rather than implement stricter regulations, more information about collection of personal data needs to be made available so people are aware
