An Israeli strike killed a senior Hezbollah commander in southern Lebanon on Monday, ratcheting up cross-border tensions during a Middle East visit by Secretary of State Antony Blinken that seeks to prevent a broader war and discuss how the Gaza Strip will be governed after the fighting there ends.
Hezbollah said a senior commander, Wissam Hassan Al-Tawil, was killed in an Israeli attack on a village in southern Lebanon. The Israeli military said jet fighters struck a series of Hezbollah targets in Lebanon after a missile was launched toward several areas in northern Israel.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, visiting soldiers just over the border from Lebanon, said the military would “do everything to restore security” in the area. “We prefer that this be done without a wide-ranging campaign, but that will not stop us,” he said.
