Exactly as said already. Saudi Arabia and Iran are the two largest sponsors of conflict between Sunni and Shia Muslims. If we don’t bring about peace between those two countries there will never be peace between Sunnis and Shias.

Ireland maintains that it is an active member of the international community. The Sunni Shia divide is one of the greatest sources of ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Saudi Arabia and Iran are the two largest sponsors of ongoing conflict across the Middle East as the two power houses behind the Sunni and Shia worlds respectively. There can be no way that any country could morally advocate against a rapprochement between Saudi Arabia and Iran.

I think government should support it but from a diplomacy point of view i.e. not overstepping boundaries within countries in question but can surely promote peace on home soil
