Yes, replace police with unarmed community based responders for non-violent calls

The premise that every non-violent call can be simply negotiated by a third party is ludicrous. Armed police officers can still deescalate a situation without discharging their firearm. Their firearm however will remind those that they are called out to that if they start to get threatening or violent that the police have adequate resources to defend themselves and the community. A community based responder will be viewed as meek and useless in a situation that could escalate. The nature of violence does not respect those with the pen but those rather with the sword.
