Yes, and secondary schools should be obligated to provide classes teaching students about the government and political processes.

 @B33XX4Yanswered…2mos2MO

To citizens 16 and older that can show a confirmation slip that they have/are working and paying taxes

 @9ZT3B3BSinn Féinanswered…4mos4MO

No I believe that your opinion can change drastically in a year, I’m 19 and am finding it hard enough to figure out what party will help me and my future with out having to leave Ireland

 @9ZSZVQGanswered…4mos4MO

It should be lowered to 16 with the exception for education on who they are voting for, young people are going to be living with the decisions we make why exclude them

 @9ZZDH7Lanswered…4mos4MO

You should be able to vote at any age as long as you complete an accurate IQ test and the results dictate if you can vote

 @9ZWFB36answered…4mos4MO

I somewhat agree with No.5, but if we have a basic test to understand politics then I think the age could be lowered. I reckon most people who have a good sense of politics has nothing to do with age, just research and personal interest. As such, a fifteen year old could easily be as understanding of politics as a fifty year old

 @9ZWDF93People Before Profitanswered…4mos4MO

Yes and everyone should be required to pass a basic text demonstration their understanding of politics in order to vote

 @9ZW5M9Danswered…4mos4MO

no the minimum age should be lowered but perhaps there should be a maximum age implemented as decisions impact younger generations on a greater scale than those in their 80's/90's

 @9ZV97RNanswered…4mos4MO

12-18 year olds should have the option to cast a vote and have their voice but it should not carry the same weight as an adult vote

 @9ZTT6FNanswered…4mos4MO

it should be raised so young people can better understand government issues and gain more life experience

 @9Z9CRFPSocial Democratsanswered…5mos5MO

No, and anyone over the age of 80 should not be allowed to vote because the difference in this country is for our young people. We don’t need old school thought and values.

 @9YNGCR9answered…5mos5MO

No it should not be lowered as men/boys intellectually are behind woman/girls, way too young to vote on such serious matter.

 @9YNC9G4answered…5mos5MO

Voting age should be from 18 up as 16 is to low as there at a stage we’re thee only starting to understand, a say on there options can be valid yes if they know what there going to vote for yes and if it was brought init the education and talked about each parties then maybe it could drop to 16

 @9YLNGRLanswered…5mos5MO

The minimum age is less relevant, there should be an age cap. Pensioners who don't contribute should not be involved in the decision making process.

 @9ZGRKYGanswered…5mos5MO

Could be lowered to 16 but it wouldn't make a huge difference unless 16-18 year olds were educated properly and impartially on politics

 @9ZBQLN5answered…5mos5MO

Any citizen that pays taxes should be able to vote if they have completed a short exam proving their knowledge of the government and the country

 @9Z9Z9TPanswered…5mos5MO

I believe people from the age of 16 should be allowed to vote on certain topics as they would still be directly impacted buglt at least would have a say

 @9YMYRPTanswered…5mos5MO

Get the average age a person lives till in ireland and cap it at that. If they live past that age well done, but theyll probs die soon. They shouldnt get a say in our future when theyll be gone soon and so many younge children who cannot vote yet have to live w the consequences

 @9YMTPNVanswered…5mos5MO

yes, should be lowered and a basic test showcasing your understanding of politics should be implemented

 @9YM5GHJanswered…5mos5MO

Yes and every five years once you reach 50 mandatory test to make sure you still understand basic politics

 @9YLQ37QFine Gaelanswered…5mos5MO

It should stay the same but there should be a cap on how old someone can vote. Anyone over 85 doesn’t vote for the future other than their own

 @9YKRCVPanswered…5mos5MO

Yes but it should be taught in school or some mandatory course to be taken if they are under the age of18 and voting

 @9MLWPF5Greenanswered…11mos11MO

the current age is fine but politics should be discussed more so they have an understanding of the issues and the impact on lives.

 @9H84QYGanswered…1yr1Y

Yes and all voters should require to pass a basic test demonstrating their understanding of the politics in order to vote

 @9F3S6BBSinn Féinanswered…2yrs2Y

Yes, but voter any citizen that pays taxes should be allowed to vote,but voters should be required to pass a basic test determining their understanding of politics in order to vote

 @9ZSXM9Tanswered…4mos4MO

Definitely not, if anything it could potentially be raised (20/21) as many young people vote for the parents party and don’t read up on anything to form there own opinion

 @9ZNP6HTSocial Democrats answered…5mos5MO

Yes, people who pay taxes should have opportunity to vote, but also voting should not be permitted for people who do not care about the votes and merely spin a wheel, otherwise you end up like america

 @9ZJLSNPanswered…5mos5MO

the voting age should only be lowered if politics and society becomes a mandatory subject for all secondary school students and anyone not in secondary school should be offered workshops explaining the political system and political history of this country

 @9ZB77BHanswered…5mos5MO

I think there shouldn’t be an age limit but perhaps a basic test demonstrating their understanding of politics to vote.

 @9N6WBSJanswered…10mos10MO

yes, and voters must be required to take a short course on how the irish political system works and how to make effective decisions on voting

 @9L5M92Hanswered…1yr1Y

The age should only be lowered to seventeen as anyone younger then that has not matured enough to vote yet

 @9HYMC6QFine Gaelanswered…1yr1Y

Yes, although some under 18's may not have enough knowledge to make an informed decision, the same can be said for some people who can currently legally vote. Under 18's should be educated about politics before voting.

 @9ZQYF74Social Democrats answered…5mos5MO

No, and there should be small tests added to the ballot to prove a person understands the basics a party is offrring.

 @9ZQ7RNGanswered…5mos5MO

People who retire should not be able to vote. Young people should be educated in politics and be able to vote and decide the future of the country as it is the young ones that will live here.

 @9NXPTSZanswered…10mos10MO

This question causes more questions than answers and doesn’t give enough information for a yes/no answer

 @9R6ZYBNanswered…9mos9MO

I believe in circumstances where over 16s can demonstrate legitamate political interest and involment, there should be a special allowance to vote.

 @9NPJXK4answered…10mos10MO

Yes, along with improved and mandatory teaching in school on politics/electoral systems etc... from a young age

 @9KZKTD3answered…1yr1Y

Yes, any citizen that pays taxes and has a legal job and is over the age of 16 should be allowed to vote

 @9WJLB7Janswered…6mos6MO

lower it to 17 but have them take a test to make sure they're knowledgeable on current issues and policies so that they can make an objective decision

 @9LLKJC9Sinn Féinfrom New York  answered…12mos12MO

Not until greater legal rights are extended to 16 year olds to defend against parental coercion. I am concerned people that live with their parents as minors are at risk of being intimidated to vote a certain way

 @9YLZ3BNanswered…5mos5MO

i think voting should be based off IQ and property holdings. If your below a certain IQ you shouldn’t be allowed make decisions that affect the whole country but if you have property and are below the IQ should still be able to vote as the laws will affect your holdings of land

 @8QCZSWRanswered…4yrs4Y

 @96QQFLSanswered…2yrs2Y

Yes, but they should be asked minimum questions on basic understanding of what they are voting for

 @95SM4SJFine Gaelanswered…3yrs3Y

It should depend on the maturity of the person, if they are mature and informed they should be allowed to vote

 @93TSBPPanswered…3yrs3Y

Yes, I think younger people are more in tune with the way our country is run than ever before. I would also like there to be stricter rules around misinformation during election campaigns, maybe an independent fact checking body to verify all major claims being made during elections.

 @8YZKJL6answered…3yrs3Y

 @8Y69KTVanswered…3yrs3Y

I believe that it has less to do with age and more to do with ones understanding of politics

 @8SFSGF2Fianna Fáilanswered…4yrs4Y
