Six university students from Northeastern University in China drowned after falling into a flotation tank during a field trip to the Wunugetushan copper-molybdenum mine in Inner Mongolia. The accident occurred when a grid plate at the ore processing plant collapsed, plunging the students into the slurry-filled tank. The mine is operated by Zhongjin Gold Corp., whose stock price dropped sharply following the incident. The students were majoring in mineral processing engineering and were on an educational visit at the time. The tragedy has raised concerns about safety protocols at industrial sites hosting student tours.
