Iran and the three major European powers—Britain, France, and Germany—have resumed direct talks in Istanbul to try to break the deadlock over Tehran's nuclear program.
The meetings come as the threat of renewed UN and European sanctions ('snapback') looms, with a late August deadline set by the Europeans if no progress is made. While both sides described the discussions as 'serious, frank, and detailed,' expectations for a breakthrough remain low, and Iran has warned it could exit the nuclear treaty if sanctions are reimposed. The talks are the first since recent Israeli and US strikes on Iranian facilities, and Iran is also seeking support from Russia and China to counter Western pressure.
The outcome of these negotiations could determine whether diplomacy prevails or Iran faces deeper isolation and economic penalties.
