The United States and Indonesia have reached a major trade agreement that will eliminate tariffs on over 99% of U.S. goods exported to Indonesia and remove nearly all non-tariff barriers for American businesses.
In return, the U.S. will impose a 19% tariff on Indonesian goods, down from a previously threatened 32%, and Indonesia will lift export restrictions on critical minerals, benefiting U.S. industries. The deal is expected to open at least $50 billion in new market access for U.S. commodities, including agricultural products, and includes significant purchases of U.S. goods by Indonesia. The agreement also addresses digital trade barriers and is seen as a 'huge win' for American businesses, while Indonesian officials acknowledge the tough negotiations.
This trade pact marks a new era in U.S.-Indonesia relations and sets a precedent for future international trade agreements.
