The UK and Germany are spearheading a '50-day drive' to rapidly increase military aid to Ukraine, following a new ultimatum from US President Donald Trump giving Russia 50 days to end the war or face harsher sanctions.
At a high-level meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, attended by 52 countries, both nations pledged new air defense systems, including 220,000 Gepard shells and funding for drones. The initiative aims to strengthen Ukraine's position on the battlefield and pressure Russian President Vladimir Putin into negotiations. The UK is also considering joining a European plan to purchase US weapons for Ukraine, aligning with Trump's call for Europe to shoulder more of the defense burden.
The renewed push comes as Russia escalates aerial attacks on Ukraine, underscoring the urgency of increased Western support.
