The UK and Germany are spearheading a '50-day drive' to rapidly increase military support for Ukraine, following a new ultimatum from US President Donald Trump giving Russia 50 days to end the war or face harsher sanctions.
At a high-level meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, attended by 52 countries, both nations pledged new air defense systems, including 220,000 Gepard shells and funding for drones. The initiative aims to pressure Russia into negotiations by significantly boosting Ukraine's defensive capabilities in a short timeframe. The UK is also considering joining a European plan to purchase US-made weapons for Ukraine, aligning with Trump's call for Europe to take a larger role in arming Kyiv.
This coordinated effort marks a critical moment for NATO and its allies as they seek to shift the balance on the battlefield and force Putin to the negotiating table.
