A powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar on Friday, sending shockwaves as far as Bangkok, Thailand.
The quake, which occurred at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers, caused widespread panic, with thousands evacuating buildings in both countries. In Bangkok, a high-rise building under construction collapsed, and damage was reported in Myanmar’s capital, Naypyidaw, including buckled roads and damaged structures. The tremors were strong enough to cause water to spill from rooftop pools and sway high-rise buildings.
Authorities are still assessing the full extent of the damage and potential casualties.
