World’s Largest Iceberg Runs Aground Near British Island

The massive A23a iceberg, which broke off from Antarctica decades ago, has finally run aground near the sub-Antarctic island of South Georgia.

Twice the size of Greater London, the iceberg had been drifting in the Southern Ocean since 2020. Scientists are closely monitoring its impact on local wildlife, as the region is home to large populations of seals and penguins. The iceberg’s movement has raised concerns about potential disruptions to marine ecosystems and fishing activities.

Experts believe it could remain grounded for some time before eventually breaking apart or continuing its drift.
