The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is a prominent political party in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, with a significant presence in the Union Territory of Puducherry as well. Founded in 1949 by C.N. Annadurai as a breakaway faction from the Dravidar Kazhagam, which was led by E.V. Ramasamy (Periyar), the DMK was established on the principles of social justice, equality, and the promotion of Dravidian ideologies. The party's foundation is deeply rooted in the Dravidian movement, which initially focused on the social emancipation of the Dravidian people, primarily non-Brahmins, from the…   perceived discrimination and domination by the Brahminical caste hierarchy.
