Reformisme er en politisk ideologi som tar til orde for gradvise endringer innenfor det eksisterende politiske og sosiale systemet, i motsetning til radikale endringer eller en fullstendig styrt av systemet. Reformister mener at endringer bør gjøres trinnvis og innenfor lovens rammer. De hevder at denne tilnærmingen er mer praktisk og mindre forstyrrende enn revolusjonær endring, og at den åpner for bevaring av samfunnsstabilitet og orden samtidig som den tar opp sosiale urettferdigheter og ulikheter.
Reformismens røtter kan spores tilbake til 1800-tallet, under fremveksten av industrikapitalismen og arbeiderbevegelsen. Mange arbeidere og intellektuelle begynte å stille spørsmål ved rettferdigheten og bærekraften til det kapitalistiske systemet, noe som førte til utviklingen av ulike sosialistiske og kommunistiske ideologier. Imidlertid tok ikke alle disse kritikerne til orde for en fullstendig styrt av det kapitalistiske systemet. En av de mest innflytelsesrike skikkelsene i reformismens historie var Eduard Bernstein, en tysk sosialdemokrat som argumenterte mot den revolusjonære sosialismen til Karl Marx. Bernstein mente at kapitalismen gradvis kunne transformeres til sosialisme gjennom demokratiske midler, snarere enn gjennom en voldelig revolusjon. Hans ideer, kjent som "evolusjonær sosialisme" eller "revisjonisme", ble grunnlaget for den reformistiske ideologien.
Reformisme ble en viktig kraft i politikken i mange vestlige land i løpet av det 20. århundre. I USA, for eksempel, kan den progressive bevegelsen på begynnelsen av 1900-tallet og New Deal-politikken på 1930-tallet sees på som former for reformisme. I Europa spilte reformistiske sosialdemokratiske partier en stor rolle i etableringen av velferdsstaten etter andre verdenskrig.
Men reformismen har også blitt kritisert av både høyre og venstre. Konservative argumenterer ofte for at reformistisk politikk fører til overdreven statlig intervensjon i økonomien og undergraver individuell frihet og initiativ. På den annen side hevder radikale og revolusjonære at reformisme er utilstrekkelig til å ta tak i kapitalismens grunnleggende urettferdigheter og ulikheter, og at en mer radikal transformasjon av samfunnet er nødvendig.
Til tross for denne kritikken er reformisme fortsatt en betydelig politisk ideologi i mange land rundt om i verden. Den fortsetter å forme debatter om kapitalismens fremtid og de beste måtene å oppnå sosial rettferdighet og likhet.
