You don’t have to be Irish to live in Ireland and be affected by our laws so why do you have to be Irish to help change the laws that are affecting you??

 @B5WTT62Fianna Fáildisagreed…2wks2W

If the foreigners in discussion are not legally citizens of the nation and are not positively contributing to tax collection and the economy, then they should not be allowed to vote.

 @B46XWF3Nationaldisagreed…4mos4MO

Democracies mean nothing if vast hoards of people from largely populated nations can "immigrate" to smaller nations and overwhelm their political processes via sheer numbers, thus engaging in a form of political colonization.

 @B3HQNPWAontúdisagreed…4mos4MO

Unless they are contributing to the economy and/or are here for longer than 15 years, they should not be able to vote.

 @B2JNCSWRepublican Sinn Féindisagreed…6mos6MO

Ireland's future & destiny should and has to be decided by Irish. Allowing foreigners to vote in Irish affairs strips us of our identity and it is undeniable that there are subversive activities happening to threaten our true democracy and action must be taken to ensure the preservation and thriving of our people.

 @B28HKHLNationaldisagreed…6mos6MO

Those of foreign nations do not understand Irish culture and history. They are separated by race and ethnicity so they should not have a say in irish affairs.

 @9ZY9Z4Gdisagreed…7mos7MO

They were not born nor raised here so they won’t understand what it is like growing up in this country.

 @9ZWCM4Fdisagreed…7mos7MO

Because if a country wants to they can send there people to vote for partys that are pro russian for example

 @9ZW9YKFagreed…7mos7MO

if you have family that live abroad i can imagine they would also like a say on how the government runs the country they live in.

 @9ZW9V87disagreed…7mos7MO

I am not in favour to let foreigners vote, it's never in the best interest of the country or citizens.

 @9ZVGRTDdisagreed…7mos7MO

Foreigners aren’t as informed as those who are born here/living here for the majority of their lives since childhood, nor would they care what goes on here. Don’t care for a response from anyone also

 @9ZVF4S3disagreed…7mos7MO

People died for the right of irish citizens to vote, it shouldn't be given to people from that have no connection to the country. Perhaps after a 10 year naturalisation period they could vote.

 @9ZTTQWZdisagreed…7mos7MO

They shouldn't be allowed to vote. If foreigners are allowed to vote, we will loose our Irish identity eventually and Ireland could be an Islamic or Muslim country before we know it

 @9ZTHC28disagreed…8mos8MO

Foreigners who are not citizens do not have the same invested interest in this country as legal citizens and should therefore not have a say in how the country is run

 @9ZSBWPFdisagreed…8mos8MO

Foreigners aren't as aware of the climate of irish life and politics and therefore shouldn't be allowed to make changes to it. Additionally it exposes the country to the risk of bad actors skewing votes with masses of immigrants.

 @9ZRXQLLdisagreed…8mos8MO

They shouldn’t be allowed to vote, what happens when they are allowed to vote is that they turn a beautiful country like Ireland into a ruined civilisation. Most of these immigrants can’t even run their own country’s for example all of Africa are living in the 10th century. They move here instead…

 @9ZRFYSSSinn Féindisagreed…8mos8MO

They don’t have enough knowledge and may not live here for a long time to live in the circumstances in which they vote for

 @9ZQMYT6disagreed…8mos8MO

Irish people should always decide for ourselves who runs this country, our ancestors fought for that

 @9ZNQBF4Aontúdisagreed…8mos8MO

Why should someone who's not proven loyalty to Ireland and shown a guaranteed want to stay on a long term basis be allowed the right to decide how the country is run and what our ideals are

 @9ZL5YMRdisagreed…8mos8MO

A country just serve its citizens as a first priority. This also protects Ireland from foreign interests.

 @9ZK46TWSocial Democratsfrom Kyoto  disagreed…8mos8MO

The right to vote is not given to people who are not residents of a country. You should be a resident of the country, understand it's policies before having voting privilages.

 @9ZJJMYDSocial Democratsdisagreed…8mos8MO

All Irish citizens should be able to vote, not just anyone living here and paying tax. Becoming a citizen It shows a commitment to living here and learning about the context in which they would be voting.

 @9ZHRHZCPBB Solidaritydisagreed…8mos8MO

National identity and heritage should take precedent over someone who has no links to the country historically. We must protect our lineage for future generations precisely because of our ancestors.

 @9ZDT55Pagreed…8mos8MO

It depends what kind of foreigners, they should be allowed to vote if they have lived and worked here for at least 5 years

 @9ZCWNPCagreed…8mos8MO

Society should be structured with every person's interests in mind who live in that society and not only a certain group within.

 @9ZCVLM3disagreed…8mos8MO

Their families are from different countries and cultures and they more then likely won’t be staying here all their life so they should have no opinion on who we elect in our country

 @9ZCQJLCdisagreed…8mos8MO

Foreigners that havent got their citizenship shouldn't have the right to vote since they havent been living here long enough.

 @9ZBWQH7Fine Gaeldisagreed…8mos8MO

If you are not a citizen of a country, then you do not have the right to define how the country should be run.

 @9ZBMKWXdisagreed…8mos8MO

Different country’s have different views and ways of living. They should not be bringing their foreign views and ideologies to our country

 @9ZB77XRIndependentagreed…8mos8MO

The world is becoming more multi-cultural and that is inherently a good thing through thousands of years, the whole story of human evolution and life is movement. It grows diversity, awareness and culture and something that the Irish people should be proud of. If we decide foreigners shouldn’t be allowed to vote then we are no better then those who have enslaved us and took away our rights leaving us to flee for better rights across the UK, Oceania & America

 @9ZB5F4RFine Gaeldisagreed…8mos8MO

A person making a conscious decision to leave one country, if given the right to vote in another, may decide to Just leave if outcome is not desired

 @9ZB4M2GSinn Féindisagreed…8mos8MO

They have no stake in the country, if things go to pot then they can up and leave unlike the natural born citizens

 @9Z9V2ZKdisagreed…8mos8MO

Legal foreigners should be able to vote. Illegal foreigners should not be able to vote as they shouldn’t even be in our country in the first place

 @9YN9RLDdisagreed…8mos8MO

If you arent a citizen you shouldnt have the right. File for citizen ship if you care. This will just cause more biased results as mosg foreigners will only vote for other foreigners

 @9YMKFRMdisagreed…8mos8MO

Why should people who have not been here for long be able to have a say in the decisions made by the permanent residents of the country

 @9YLNH9Tdisagreed…8mos8MO

Unless they are an Irish citizen for 5 plus years they mightn’t have the best interest of Ireland in mind. They could be voting for fun since they can leave Ireland again and voting badly wouldn’t affect them.

 @9YKQHD4disagreed…8mos8MO

Don’t know the history of Ireland haven’t grown up in Ireland don’t have older relatives or generations of Irish people known to them to know what the lived experience is like

 @9YKGFD7Fine Gaeldisagreed…8mos8MO

They will not vote with the best interest of the country at mind because this isn’t their country. Irish people should decide what goes on in Ireland. The EU gets to push laws onto Ireland as that is in the best interest of the Union but foreigners here do not think about the future of Ireland only the future of themselves. I cannot blame them for this as they don’t have a passion for this country which is understandable as they’re new here. Only citizens should be able to vote, meaning foreigners can once they prove that they actually do care for this country as they’ve undertaken a big task to stay here.

 @9P4X3PQdisagreed…1yr1Y

It can be abused. Sitting regime can incentivise new immigrants for their votes, potentially. Lack of knowledge on cultural decisions and values fundamental to long settled Irish people. Many other reasons.

 @9NY99KNWorkers’agreed…1yr1Y

Foreigners or immigrants work, pay taxes, join tidy towns, and contribute innumerably to how the country is run; they have a natural an inalienable right to how decisions that affect them are made.

 @9NMW24Ydisagreed…1yr1Y

They have not been born in the country therefore have not seen the countries history of politics or the results of poor voting choices when badly organised parties get into parliment

 @9NK9X53disagreed…1yr1Y

I don't have the right to vote in India, Brazil or Nigeria so why on Earth should foreign nationals have the right to vote in my country?

 @9LPB3DMIndependentagreed…1yr1Y

We have a culturally rich society. Our workforce depends on a multitude of ethnicities. They ought to be allowed have their say so long as they are contributing to society positively and paying their tax.

 @9GWH4MZdisagreed…2yrs2Y

They should not shape direction of a countrys policies whose culture and issues they do not understand

 @9FSN8F6Social Democratsdisagreed…2yrs2Y

they may not fully understand the political climate. after all, they've only lived here for a few years. wait 5 years and you can get your passport, then you have citizenship, you can vote, and after spending 5 years actually living here you'll understand the political climate better.

 @9ZL9L2BSinn Féindisagreed…8mos8MO

foreigners should not be able to vote as they should not be in this country in the country in the first place

 @9ZHZK7Ydisagreed…8mos8MO

Foreign people don't have the same ideas or beliefs as the irish. We do not go to their countries and have the same rights.

 @9ZHHDM9agreed…8mos8MO

They have been friends family coworkers and the such for years now they all have been a part of this country and should get a say in its future

 @9ZGQ3C3agreed…8mos8MO

People come here to live a better life they need education in our politics to see who they should vote for based on their values

 @9ZDZ9WKdisagreed…8mos8MO

Not nationals, less likely to stay in the country, therefore less likely to experiences ramifications of decision

 @9ZDGW2Wdisagreed…8mos8MO

Person with no historical connection to the land should not be able to influence the future of my family who have a historical connection to this land

 @9ZCSVC4disagreed…8mos8MO

They do not have a complete understanding of what the Irish political landscape. If left unchecked it could lead to TDs being elected by taking advantage of their immigration status

 @9ZCNFKDdisagreed…8mos8MO

They’re not Irish born citizens. But I believe the children of foreign migrants should be able to vote

 @9ZBNLBRSinn Féindisagreed…8mos8MO

They haven’t been living in the country long enough to know the effects of their vote (once you gain citizenship then I believe you have the right to vote)

 @9ZBNJ39disagreed…8mos8MO

I think only registered residents of the country of should be allowed to vote as this is there long term home they care for the country and have true best intentions at heart. I don’t think new foreigners should be allowed as they are not aware of Irish history and what the Irish has fought for. Our ancestors fought to stop non Irish from taking over our language and traditions because they didn’t know it so unless these people are fully aware and on board the shouldn’t vote and because there is no way to confirm this and in reality there would be a very small percentage that are aware I think NO.

 @9Z95M5Hagreed…8mos8MO

Why shouldn’t someone who isn’t inherently Irish be considered different from someone who was born here, will gain citizenship and progress to have a family who will be inherently Irish

 @9YMB7Y2disagreed…8mos8MO

As they are not Irish they have no say in OUR government. For all we know, they could be fed propaganda about abolishing it. No matter how long they have lived here.

 @9YM5VFQdisagreed…8mos8MO

I believe all citizens deserve the right to make an impact on their own home and country. That said, I do think there should be a requirement of citizenship or a set period of residence, at a minimum of five years. This would allow individuals to make informed and educated decisions, ensuring they have spent enough time in the country to understand its culture, policies, and values

 @9YLQ8S6disagreed…8mos8MO

They are not nationals therefore do not understand or know our political history. The power of voting may also be abused.
Background checks and waiting for citizenship would be a way to allow voting in time to come.

 @9ZG5KCQIndependentdisagreed…8mos8MO

They have no cultural or heritage connection to this Island we call home. It’s an insult to all the men and women who fought for 800 years for the liberation of this free state to allow people with no connection to that struggle to vote. These people have no interest in our traditional music languages and games

 @9ZFHTGRdisagreed…8mos8MO

The people born and raised in Ireland should decide its future not foreigners. If an immigrant has lived in the country for an extended period of time eg. 10 years plus, gained citizenship, paid tax and has a clean criminal record then i think they should be allowed to vote.

 @9ZCX94Mfrom South Carolina  disagreed…8mos8MO

It is not their country so they shouldn’t have the same power as those who are born and raised here. We don’t go to theirs and make decisions for them

 @9ZCMH2Jagreed…8mos8MO

If they work and are part of our community there is no reason for them to not be allowed to vote. Many people came to Ireland years ago and have proven their right to have an opinion on the government

 @9YNDPMDdisagreed…8mos8MO

Any foreigner seeking the right to vote in Ireland should be integrating well, speaking English/Irish and working and paying tax

 @9YN28XPdisagreed…8mos8MO

I believe if you are born in that country you have the right to vote therefore they have the right too vote in their own country of birth

 @9ZKGVC7Fine Gaeldisagreed…8mos8MO

They didn't grow up in this country, they don't know how this country works and they don't have the knowledge of what this country really needs, only their own needs. They will vote for their own benefits, costing the government more money for asylum-seekers and immigration policies will be more open, leading to the diffusion of the Irish.

 @9ZKDSN7disagreed…8mos8MO

If they’re not legal irish citizens they shouldn’t be able to vote to determine what our laws etc are

 @9ZG4T2Fdisagreed…8mos8MO

They do not have enough experience of Ireland to be able to give an educated vote on who should be in control of the country.

 @9ZG3PP4disagreed…8mos8MO

Ireland is the land of the Irish, this is not America where the main population has no claim to the land. When you ship people in who have no love for Ireland and it's culture, sports, language etc you go against everything that our founding fathers fought against. Our culture and language will become even more diluted, these people will not want to speak Irish and do not care for a United Ireland. For over a thousand years our ancestors fought against foreigners invading our land and destroying our culture. For anybody who loves Ireland and what is Irish please be rational and vote to put an end to immigration on behalf of all Irishmen and Irishwomen. Do note vote in fine gael or fianna fail.

 @9ZDY6LQAontúdisagreed…8mos8MO

Foreigners may have a different vision for their host country from a native citizen who ancestry goes back to the 9th or 10th century.

 @9ZDN78Jdisagreed…8mos8MO

The people born and raised in Ireland should decide its future not foreigners. If an immigrant has lived in the country for an extended period of time eg. 10 years plus, gained citizenship, paid tax and has a clean criminal record then i think they should be allowed to vote.

 @9ZCQWKP agreed…8mos8MO

A foreign person is no different to an Irish person and if they are a contributor to our society there is no reason they should not input in our government.

 @9YNLP5Q disagreed…8mos8MO

Voting is only for citizens who have lived in Ireland all their life or long enough to become a citizen, thus both are strongly affected by elections

 @9YMFF6L disagreed…8mos8MO

I do not think foreigners that do not work or pay taxes or have not been in the country more than at least 5 years should have the right to vote as I think someone should be an Irish citizen or has lived in Ireland long enough to be counted as a citizen and know fully the way the country works and votes to benefit the country not their own self. allowing individuals with limited stakes in the country's long-term well-being to influence critical decisions, such as taxation, welfare policies, and national defense. This influence could be problematic if non-citizens have cultural or political loyalties that conflict with the country’s values or strategic interests.

 @9FY66F8agreed…2yrs2Y

Foreigners voting will give a more rounded government that isn’t against one thing too much and isn’t for something too much
