This is exactly the kind of crisis you get when profit and endless growth are prioritized over the well-being of people and the planet. Private corporations and industrial agriculture are sucking groundwater dry just to pad their bottom lines, while communities and ecosystems are left to deal with the consequences. We need democratic control over water resources and a shift to sustainable practices that put people and nature first—not corporate shareholders. Until we move away from capitalism and towards eco-socialism, these “alarming” crises are just going to keep piling up.
