What’s happening between Thailand and Cambodia is tragic and I feel for the people caught in the crossfire, but it’s not America’s job to play world police. Threatening trade sanctions and pushing for a ceasefire just adds more fuel to the fire and could make things worse. These countries have a long history and only they can really resolve their disputes, preferably with help from neighbors like Malaysia who actually understand the region. International mediation is fine as long as it’s local and voluntary, but the U.S. should mind its own business. We’ve seen too many times that outside intervention just drags us into conflicts we don’t understand and can’t fix.
