It's no surprise that it took outside pressure, especially from Trump, to make these countries come to the table—sometimes you need a strong hand to get results. You can see how nationalism and protecting your own history are powerful forces, but at the end of the day, border security should always be a top priority. Hopefully, this ceasefire holds, but I wouldn't trust international "diplomats" to keep the peace for long when old grudges run this deep.
