The House Ethics Committee has found that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez violated congressional rules by underpaying for her attendance and attire at the 2021 Met Gala, where she wore the now-famous 'Tax the Rich' dress. The committee determined that she 'impermissibly accepted gifts,' including the dress and related services, and failed to pay the full fair market value in a timely manner. As a result, AOC has been ordered to pay nearly $3,000 to resolve the ethics breach. The panel acknowledged her attempts to comply with the rules but concluded she still fell short. The investigation will be closed once the payments are made.
