The right to vote is based on the lived experience of everyone within a country, this includes foreigners trying to make a living within that country
@B2JNCSWRepublican Sinn Féin6mos6MO
Allowing non-Irish to disturb Irish affairs strips the Irish of their true say to determine their own country's path, which I believe is a threat to nationality and the preservation of nationhood is of paramount importance to ensure the conservation of Irish culture.
@B26KF8X7mos7MO
Everyone has the right to have their voice heard on important political matters, regardless of where they are from.
@9ZWLKSNPeople Before Profit8mos8MO
They lack understanding of our history and economics. They haven’t been here long enough to fully immerse in Irish financial and socio economic conditions.
@9ZW4WVV8mos8MO
I understand if they have been living here for less than a year, but those that have lived here for more than 5 years and wish to not become a citizen of ireland because of hastle I feel like they should have a right to say.
@9ZVPZXC8mos8MO
If they work in our country, live in our country and give back to our country. The least we can do is give them a vote
@9ZTY95T8mos8MO
I think that if a person has Irish citizen, then they are Irish and should be treated the same as every other citizen in this country, otherwise we are encouraging discrimination.
@9ZTRR5F8mos8MO
Any one who is a contributing member of society within Ireland should have the right to an opinion on how we operate
@9ZSR3Q2Independent8mos8MO
People who work hard in this country deserve to have their voice heard and i will bring positive improvement
@9ZSMXFQ8mos8MO
Ireland is a free nation with great human rights and I believe that freedom should extend to every human being!
@9ZSBZXP8mos8MO
If they are citizens and operate in the economy the same as an Irish born person then why can't they help make decisions
@9ZRX7FD8mos8MO
If someone not from Ireland is living and working here, they are one of us; they deserve a say in the function of this country
What if they vote for something you don’t agree with and choose to leave the country days after the election
@9ZQMYT68mos8MO
800 years of British oppression we only had a say on our own land for last 100 years why give that away to foreigners.
@9ZLSMTT8mos8MO
I would say it's a very close minded way of thinking, and is actively harming people's perception of our country. We should be welcoming others into the country as it allows us to prosper even more than we already are, and it gives us a better reputation. Those who are taking extreme, violent actions in response to this are nothing but ignorant bigots who defend their lunacy under the false pretence of "patriotism."
Unless they have lived in Ireland for ten years under legal immigration status, they should not be allowed the right to vote
@9ZLKP6RSocial Democrats8mos8MO
Everyone has a right to have a say regarding what happens where they live. How long they've been living here is irrelevant, they're here now, they're paying taxes now, they should have a say now. No reason to not allow them to participate in the conversation.
in recent events ther has been many evidence that they have caused harm to the irish economy and people
@9ZCWNPC8mos8MO
Anyone residing here permanently or long-term has a vested interest in the governing of Ireland and should be entitled to voice their opinion on it's governance
@9ZCWMT68mos8MO
Anyone who resides in the state and has made the effort to decide to make a life here should have the right to vote on policies that affect their future within the state regardless of wether they align with my political beliefs or not
@9ZBNJ398mos8MO
I think only registered residents of the country of should be allowed to vote as this is there long term home they care for the country and have true best intentions at heart. I don’t think new foreigners should be allowed as they are not aware of Irish history and what the Irish has fought for. Our ancestors fought to stop non Irish from taking over our language and traditions because they didn’t know it so unless these people are fully aware and on board the shouldn’t vote and because there is no way to confirm this and in reality there would be a very small percentage that are aware I think NO.
@9ZBMKWX8mos8MO
The Large amount of immigration over the last few years could almost turn the tide of an election with foreigners with their values that could change irelands core beliefs and culture
@9YMKFRM8mos8MO
If they have gained a citizenship and have been accepted into the country then they should have the right to vote, if they are not a citizen they should not
@9YMBLH78mos8MO
The Irish should be allowed to decide the fate of their own country as they are the ones who have built it and lived within it. It is one thing embrace other cultures, but another to let them override your own.
@9YLNH9T8mos8MO
Some policies have open borders and giving more money to foreigners coming into Ireland. Foreigners who vote would obviously vote for open borders and more money. The government should focus on their own issues before letting other countries issues into our country. Homelessness and the cost of living is a massive issue in Ireland right now, how can the government put others above their own? We are not the priority in our own country and we should change that!
@9YLKSJH8mos8MO
If they are living here and paying taxes here for a couple of years they should have a say about their livelihood
@9YKQHD48mos8MO
In the 2016 Irish Census, 17.3% of the population (around 800,000 people) were non-Irish nationals. If foreigners were granted voting rights, it could result in large demographic shifts in political power that may not align with the core values and priorities of the Irish population.
I find the idea of land borders to be superficial and a capitalist structure; the concept of a 'foreigner' depends on our acceptance of a 'national', when it is pure chance what plot of soil one is born on.
@9NMW24Y1yr1Y
The answer is in the question 'Foreigners' They are not from this country therefore should not have any say in our political decisions
@9N7G3WS1yr1Y
They are part of the country population so they have a right to have a say in what happens in the country
@9MFRTYV1yr1Y
They are living and working in our country they should have more entitlement than some people who refuse to work
@9LYGSYQ1yr1Y
When it's comes to mass immigration especially when Ireland's government bends to EU directive such as they are doing now. In 2022 census it showed that 12% of peoples residing in Oreland are non-nationals, this number has certainly increased in recent years and mass immigration negatively impacts the culture, region and national identity of the country. This country has already lived through several plantations and they have only resulted in long lasting conflicts and partition.
If someone plans to reside in/live in a country for an extended period of time they should be entitled to the same democratic independence and trust as any other living in the country.
@9ZNFLKW8mos8MO
Foreign People are People and Humans too and deserve the same rights as anyone else. The inherent value of a human life should be enough but if more reason is needed then the work they do in terms of propping up our health service and saving our lives should also qualify
@9ZNC5CPSocial Democrats8mos8MO
If someone is living here and trying to make a life for themselves then they are directly affected by politics and policies and should get a vote like the rest of us
@9ZJPJWD8mos8MO
No stats - just common sense. I live in Portugal but I shouldn’t vote in their matters unless I become a citizen. It’s their nation not mine.
@9ZHVSQYIndependent8mos8MO
Foreigners who have lived in this country for more than 5 years should be considered eligible to vote
@9ZHHDM98mos8MO
Foreigners who have been living here for years deserve a right to vote as if they have been living here they will continue to be living here.
@9ZGQ3C38mos8MO
They live in this country same as us they see the struggles the whole country experiences they should also vote
@9ZB77XRIndependent8mos8MO
If they have built their lives here, contribute to society and pass the current barriers to vote then they should have a say in the country that dictates their lives
@9Z95M5H8mos8MO
They belong to our nation, they work and reside here therefore they undeniably have the right to vote
@9YLR4RJ8mos8MO
Foreign people are as much of apart of the Irish economy as Irish people. Ireland has a very high percentage of foreigners in the workplace it is right for them to be able to vote in the same country they pay taxes
@9ZG5KCQIndependent8mos8MO
Cause they don’t belong here, they’re stupid, they commit a disproportionate amount of sexual assault and rape. Look at Malmo in Sweden
@9ZFHTGR8mos8MO
The answer is in the question 'Foreigners' They are not from this country therefore should not have any say in our political decisions
@9Z9B3LC8mos8MO
If they are living here and paying taxes here for a couple of years they should have a say about their livelihood
They are paying taxes/raising families here and have an invested interest in the way the country is governed.
@9ZBTS2L8mos8MO
Being undocumented is a danger lack of background checks lead to trouble simple come in legally or not at all simple all are welcome any religion any race BUT LEGALLY
As long as they pay tax and are safeguarded and are no threat to the people of Ireland they should be able to vote
@9ZGR6FG 8mos8MO
In order to vote in a country you must be a resident of the country and pay tax in the country of residence.
@9ZG4TTF 8mos8MO
Why should they be allowed to vote on the status of the country when they’ve never understood our politics
@9ZCQWKP 8mos8MO
I believe if a person has emigrated to our country and spent a considerable amount of time here. Working and paying taxes in this country maybe even raising a family, I see no reason this person shouldn’t have a say in the way in which we are governed.
@9ZB9PNX8mos8MO
They live in the country and contribute to its economy, are part of the working force and thus have every right to have a say in how the country is run. More right to it than the retired fossils who will not suffer the consequences of the right-wing candidates they eagerly vote for, for that matter.
@9Z9D6HMPBB Solidarity 8mos8MO
People living in a country should be able to influence the future if they are going to continue to live in the country
Why should they have a right to vote if I was to go to a foreign country would I have a right to vote, be put up in a house and paid by that government
@9ZBV2JX 8mos8MO
Unless they have lived here for a couple of years are considered a citizen and pay taxes they shouldn't have a say
@9FY66F82yrs2Y
Not allowing people to vote is the exact same as not allowing people with red hair to vote. It’s blatant discrimination
